Boleslaw the Brave, the tale of my amigurumi rabbit

My freshman year of college I had a really hard time adjusting, and the second semester I ended up with a single room in the dorms. I got really into amigurumi and had a blast making myself small toys and would name them after historical figures to help me study for my history exams.

My favorite was a little rabbit I made from a horrible neon red yarn that was from the 70s. It had been given to me by one of the ladies in my co-Ed service fraternity. This bunny’s name was Boleslaw the Brave, and I have to be honest, I have no idea why his namesake was important.

I carried Boleslaw with me everywhere until I was pregnant with my oldest child, and in the last 3 years I’ve started to miss him. I decided to make another, unfortunately the only similarity is the color and animal. I also decided to share the pattern to Boleslaw The Brave 2.0 for free as I just listed my second pattern Amigurumi Mandrake on ravelry today. Please check it out, I really enjoyed making that pattern!

Materials:

Yarn, I used Hobby Lobby’s I love this yarn sport weight in Orange Neon

Hook, I used a D/3.25- use whatever will create a tight stitch for you

Stuffing, tapestry needle, embroidery thread (or whatever you decide to use to add a face- safety eyes are generally my favorite to use.)

This is made in the round as a spiral, do not slip stitch between rows

Head:

R1:Make a magic loop and sc 6 in the loop, pull it tight (6sts)

R2: [2sc] x6 (12sts)

R3: [2sc, sc] x6 (18sts)

R4: [2sc,sc2] x6 (24 sts)

R5: [2sc,sc3] x6 (30sts)

R6-9: (4 rounds) sc all sts (30sts)

R10: [dec, sc] x10 (20sts)

R11: [dec]x10 (10sts)

Fasten off, leave a tail to sew to body. Stuff the head and add safety eyes or other features now.

Body:

R1:Make a magic loop and sc 6 in the loop, pull it tight (6sts)

R2: [2sc] x6 (12sts)

R3: [2sc, sc] x6 (18sts)

R10: sc all sts (21sts)

R11: [dec, sc5] x3 (18sts)

R12: [dec, sc4] x3 (15sts)

R13: [dec, sc3] x3 (12sts)

R14: [dec, sc4] x2 (10sts)

Fasten off, stuff the body and the head and sew them together

Ears (make 2):

R1:Make a magic loop and sc 6 in the loop, pull it tight (6sts)

R2: [2sc] x6 (12sts)

R3-6: (4 rounds) sc all sts (12sts)

R7: [dec] x6 (6sts)

Fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing to the body

Legs (make 2):

R1:Make a magic loop and sc 6 in the loop, pull it tight (6sts)

R2: [2sc] x6 (12sts)

R3: [dec] x6 (6sts)

R4: sc all st (6sts)

Finish off leaving a long tail for sewing to the body, stuff.

Arms (make 2):

R1:Make a magic loop and sc 6 in the loop, pull it tight (6sts)

R2-8: (7 rounds) sc all sts

R9: hold both sides together and sc 3 through both layers

Finish off and leave a tail for sewing to body.

Sew pieces to the body as in the picture. I started sewing the ears through R1 of the head, so they were touching.

I hope you all enjoy this free pattern, but please respect the work I put into it and do not try to pass it off as your own pattern, you may share links back to my page though! You may sell finished items from this pattern, but be sure to credit me by linking back to my blog.

Happy crafting!
